Professional presentations and working sessions with Co de Kloet
Based on over five decades of experience as a creative catalyst, composer, musician, producer, teacher/mentor and businessman, Zivasound presents five packages in which Co shares his insights and experiences during specialized and tailor-made sessions for students, professionals, companies and individuals. Besides practical information and training sessions Co also talks about Music as a blueprint for a healthy society.
All sessions are a combination of gathered knowledge and personal experiences in the work field.
PACKAGE #1: TAKING CARE OF MY MUSIC BUSINESS
For nine years Co has been coordinator of the Music Business and Career team of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam Jazz Department. In the exchange with master and bachelor students he not only was able to share a lot of his experience in the Music Business field but also learned a lot from the feedback he got from both students, colleagues and guest teachers. All this information has now been integrated in a session where Co discusses the many aspects of the Music Business of today.
How can a young musician make use of all the various elements the work field provides? It goes without saying that the personal identity of the artist must be leading in a world where so much music is being offered to both the audiences and the media. The combination of the personal identity and the artistic output is one that needs a lot of care and self-reflection. In these sessions Co describes various situations and hands out starting points for the students to develop their own method of working.
Guideline for the series is the construction of a personal EPK (electronic press kit) since this contains all elements covered by Co’s experience as a producer and teacher.
This package comes in a variety of forms depending on the number and length of the sessions.

PACKAGE #2: THE ART OF THE INTERVIEW
Throughout his work in radio and television Co has conducted over 1,000 interviews, mainly music oriented. He makes no distinction between talking to young performers, composers, music professionals or world-famous legends.
As Co does not pretend to be a journalist, his interviews are more like conversations whereby mutual interest and respect are leading.
In this session, which consists of a 90-minute presentation followed by a two-hour interactive workshop, Co informs the participants how to make use of an interview; how can I transfer information for audiences that already know me, how can I raise interest of new audiences, how do I avoid pitfalls.
Tips and tricks and some personal anecdotes Co will share about conversations he had with giants like Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Elvin Jones, Ike Turner, Joe Satriani, Herbie Hancock, Laurie Anderson, Antony Braxton, Kent Nagano, Diana Krall, Captain Beefheart, Gary Lucas, Suzy Creamcheese, Marcus Miller, Luciano Pavarotti, José Carreras, Ivo Pogorelich, Carlo Maria Giulini and of course Steve Vai and Frank Zappa.
Some nice videos available in the Interview Section of this website.
PACKAGE #3: PERSONAL CONSULTANCY SESSIONS
As a public relations and sales manager for a technical company, active in Europe, North Africa and the United States, Co gathered a lot of information about deals and management, which for the most part can be applied within artistic situations. The phrase ”you are selling, I am not buying” which Co was confronted with in New York trying to sell a textile-machine still resonates today and has proven to be helpful in artistic negotiations. The combination of artistic integrity and economic self-consciousness is a strong base for personal one-on-one consultancy. The personal sessions can take place at Zivasound or other locations.
PACKAGE #4: DAH BIGGAH PRODOOZ
A nickname given to Co by the great George Duke, with whom Co had an inspiring friendship and professional cooperation. With over 40 releases as a producer and with a personal approach to ‘production’, Co can be of use as a
“third or fourth set of ears” during recording, mixing and mastering sessions.
One of his personal highlights is his work as a producer for Todd Rundgren, one of Co’s heroes in producer-land, for his live bonus-cd State with the Metropole Orkest.
Other Metropole Orkest Co-productions: Steve Vai, Dweezil Zappa, Brian Eno, Gary Lucas, Terry Bozzio, Mike Keneally, George Duke and others.
PACKAGE #5: FRANK & CO
Do you have any idea how weird it is to befriend your idol? Well, it happened to Co when he met Frank Zappa in 1977. Co went into the business so to speak and Frank & Co stayed in contact and became friends. Pushed by his father Co Sr. and after a talk in a van on the way to a symphonic orchestra performance with Dweezil Zappa, Co decided to write a book about his relationship, both professionally and personally, with one of the icons of recent Music History.
Title of the book: Frank & Co, because that is what it is about. Dweezil wrote the forward and Steve Vai wrote a beautiful recommendation on the back of the book. The book is filled with personal memories and conversations with not only Frank himself, but also with important people he encountered in his lifetime. All these conversations are in Co’s audio archive.
The story has a stage version during which Co goes through the book, plays audio material and takes questions from the audience consisting of both connoisseurs as well as people who are somewhat new to the phenomenon Frank Zappa. Performances in the past have proven to be entertaining and the new version also includes Co’s personal vision on how Frank Zappa‘s DNA as a composer came to be. This session is for Zappa freaks, music students and people with a healthy curiosity towards specialized entertainment.
The length of the program is two hours non-stop + room for Q&A.
